Folk Costumes

Folk costumes have emerged as a representation of the various garments used by the population of the island, from its colonization to the very recent past. It should be noted that despite the island's small size, these costumes vary from one parish to another.

They basically represent two types of costumes with different functions. On the one hand, we have the Sunday costumes, normally used for going to mass and other solemn occasions; these are distinguished by the use of finer and well-crafted fabrics. On the other hand, we have work clothes, which normally use thicker fabrics, with a dark colour and a less cared appearance, as their main objective would be durability.
