Earflap Hat

Earflap Hat

Earflap hats or villain’s hats, as they are also known, were once an indispensable element for the countrymen, who mainly used them to protect themselves from the elements (by dropping the side flaps, they protected themselves from the cold).

In its manufacture, wool from sheep raised in the mountains was used. It was knitted with 5 needles, which made it possible to make the funnel-shaped hat, without the need for seams. They were finished with two ear-shaped appendages, which ended up giving them the name by which they are known until the present day. Finally, they were still decorated with a wool tassel attached to the top.
